Webinar - FOB Vs Incoterms

  • Canada and the EU are entering a new trade era with CETA, but our largest trading partner, the U.S., may be taking a trade approach based on domestic manufacturing. More than ever, shippers in Canada need to have a clear understanding of the benefits, and drawbacks, of the North American UCC FOB terms, and how they differ from Incoterms.

Although Incoterms have become the recognized standard worldwide as “shipping terms of sale” for international trade, shippers in North America are often confused when it comes to the term “FOB”. This webinar will present an overview of the “shipping terms of sale” that evolved from the U.S. Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), and have been in widespread use in North America since 1952, and reasons why “FOB” has earned the reputation as the most misused shipping term. ?

Now that the European Parliament has ratified CETA, Canadian buyers and sellers will almost certainly have greater access to suppliers and customers in the EU that regularly use Incoterms. But our largest trading partner, the U.S., may be taking a different direction based on protectionism, resulting in more domestic manufacturing, and less importing. Conceivably, this may result in a return to the UCC FOB terms for many U.S. firms, and by extension, their Canadian subsidiaries, suppliers and customers. More than ever, shippers in Canada need to have a clear understanding of the benefits, and drawbacks, of the North American UCC FOB terms, and how they differ from Incoterms
