Webinar- Metamorphosis of Canadian Retail Supply Chains P.II

Gary Newbury will be conducting two discussions on Friday 26th June and Tuesday 30th June and will be helping the audience to make sense of fundamental changes which have emerged since COVID-19 began to rise in prominence in the government, businesses and individuals minds, followed by a States of Emergency being announced provincially and municipally, state mandated closure of businesses, enormous fiscal expenditures with disruption of many things we had previously assigned value to, in parallel to an onslaught in unemployment levels and an economic downturn never previously experienced in Canadian history.

Gary will talk us through 5 key factors impacts consumer mindsets, how these have developed over the last 3 months and how these may influence how consumers value future consumption choices. He will start by laying out some pre-Covid stats that will show the fragility of our preparation as a society to weather this episodic discontinuity event.

Given this tumultuous period that was unexpected and unprecedented in its socio-economic force, it is clear, retailers must accelerate their transformational journeys/programs to remain relevant and profitable. Gary will detail three key steps retailers must travel through to win. He will discuss some of the structural changes retailers must face up to, how the internal supply chain must be rescoped and “joined up” to operate frictionlessly, the rise of both marketing and supply chain dynamics/interplay as retailers reprioritise what is important, the obstacles their senior teams will face and the qualities of supply chain leaders many business, including Canadian retailers must drive for to be successful.

Gary will reflect on the demand and supply shocks Canadian retailers have experienced and how different the early days were to the “Bullwhip” effect, the quality of business continuity plans which has been exposed as seriously flawed and their efficacy now fundamentally challenged. He will paint a picture of the future challenges geographically extended supply chain face.

Gary will conclude with one perspective on the future of Canadian retailing for the 2020s, the potential supply chain design, organisation and executional approaches required to succeed. He will paint a picture of the considerations retailers need to think about as they position themselves beyond competing on price and focus, instead, into a clearly differentiated proposition, face up to a continuous cycle of continuous improvement, and reinvention of their retailing concepts to keep driving sustainable profitability

The format will be for Gary to lead with two presentations of broadly 20-25 minutes each and then open up each session to audience questions which will be facilitated by CITT.
